This is a bold abstract encaustic painting measuring 30”x 24” ,made up of nine 8” x10” panels assembled together, and framed in a simple white exhibition frame.
The paint is thick and highly textured, with raw wood in the unpainted areas.
Encaustic paint is made from a combination of beeswax, pigment, and damar, and is worked by heating and melting the materials. Encaustic paintings are very durable (examples remain from ancient Egypt) but they are susceptible to high temperatures, so they should not be hung in a place which may get excessively hot, (in direct sunlight or near a radiator, for example). If the surface dulls over time, a light polish with a soft cloth can bring up its luster beautifully.
