What words or phrases best describe the work you've selected to exhibit?

Shafts of sunlight, rainbows, kaleidoscopes, light refractions and reflections.  Created to lift spirits and brightens the day during darker periods of winter.  Light and color bring feelings of joy and hope and are a great balm in challenging times.

Describe a method or technique that's integral to your artistic practice.

I work primarily with encaustic paint, a combination of beeswax, pigment, and resin. The paint is heated, melted, and applied as a molten liquid that hardens as it cools. I love the fact that with encaustic I can use natural, renewable materials in making my artwork. Encaustic has beautiful qualities of translucency and texture which can be seen in the brushwork on the wood panels.

How do you cultivate creativity in your own life?

I draw inspiration from the natural world. I look at the effects of light on clouds in sunsets and the little rainbows that appear in gasoline spills on asphalt, or in soap bubbles. I am also attracted to the logic of geometry. Through the informal study of geometry, I aim to find that certain balance and "rightness" that can be found in nature.
